El presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, nominó a Ben Bernanke para otro período al frente de la Reserva Federal, elogiando su «tranquilidad y sabiduría» ante la crisis económica.
Obama, quien anunció su decisión el martes en Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, donde está de vacaciones con su familia, prometió mantener un banco central «fuerte e independiente» y advirtió que la economía de Estados Unidos aún «está muy lejos» de tener un sistema financiero saludable y una recuperación plena.
Ben Bernanke terminaba su periodo al frente de la Fed el 31 de enero 2010.
«Necesitamos que Ben continúe con el trabajo que está haciendo y esa es la razón por la que he dicho que no podemos volver a una economía basada en bancos con exceso de apalancamiento, ganancias infladas y tarjetas de créditos en niveles límite», señaló Obama en declaraciones preparadas con antelación.
Bernanke fue designado presidente de la Fed por el ex presidente George W. Bush tras presidir el Consejo de Asesores Económicos.
Bernanke, miembro del partido republicano, ha sido ampliamente elogiado por economistas y Wall Street esperaba que se mantuviera en el cargo.
One of the biggest reasons for Twitter’s growth and success is that the Twitter team allowed the service to be morphed and re-shaped by the user-base from the very beginning. We saw it happen in the way that the Twitter community instituted replies, retweets, and #hashtags.
But the real kicker was the fact that Twitter released an open API for developers. That allowed programmers to extend Twitter in lots of different directions and experiment with different tools and utilities to improve Twitter.
In 2007, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone told ReadWriteWeb, “The API has been arguably the most important, or maybe even inarguably, the most important thing we’ve done with Twitter. It has allowed us, first of all, to keep the service very simple and create a simple API so that developers can build on top of our infrastructure and come up with ideas that are way better than our ideas.”

Today, over three years after Twitter originally launched, there are now thousands of different tools developed from the API, and many of them are extremely useful. Below is my list of the top 15 most useful Twitter tools for business users.
1. Bit.ly
This URL shortener not only shrinks links down to about 20 characters, it also keeps track of your links for you and provides some basic analytics to see how many people click and retweet the links and where those users are coming from.
2. Twitpic
The most popular tool for sharing photos on Twitter is Twitpic, which allows you to take a photo on your mobile phone and email it to a customized Twitpic email address. You simply type your tweet into the subject line of the email. (See also: Flickr2Twitter)
3. Tweetscan
If you’ve ever used Google Alerts, then you’ll understand Tweetscan. It scans Twitter for your keywords and sends you a daily or weekly email of all instances where your keywords were used. This can be especially helpful for tracking brands. However, the service is not free. It costs $20/year.
4. Twitterfeed
Twitter is great for promoting blog posts and other types of content. If you have a blog and you want to automatically send out a tweet every time there’s a new post, then Twitterfeed can do it for you. It also has some nice customization options.
5. TwInbox
If you live in Microsoft Outlook — like many business professionals — and would prefer to interact with Twitter from there, TwInbox integrates Twitter into Outlook. And, the product is free. It was formerly known as OutTwit.
6. CoTweet
CoTweet provides an entire business workflow for companies that are serious about using Twitter for business. CoTweet allows you to manage multiple Twitter accounts, it allows multiple users to access a single account, it can assign tweets to employees for follow-up, it can monitor keywords and trends, it can track clicks to links, and it can allow employees to schedule tweets out into the future. 7. TweetStats
This site provides statistics for individual Twitter users. Simply plug in the person’s Twitter username and you’ll get a plethora of stats, such how often a person tweets, when the person tweets the most, who the person replies to most often, who the person retweets the most and which interface the person used the most to post on Twitter. 8. Twuffer
This free tool allows you to schedule tweets out into the future. For example, I like to post an inspirational quote of the day on Twitter. But sometimes when I’m looking up quotes I’ll come across with several good ones at a time. So, I use Twuffer to spread them out over several days.
9. Twtpoll
One of the most useful things to do on Twitter is to crowd-source a question or ask a quick straw poll. Twtpoll is a tool that makes it very easy to officially do a poll. (See also: StrawPoll)
10. Twendz
If you want to see watch how a keyword has been viewed over time, Twendz provides a very simply and useful chart. The chart is updated in real time. (See also: Twazzup, Twist, and Twittercounter)

Apple, it seems, is all about the hits. The iPod, the iPhone and the MacBook are all phenomenally successful, both as designs and as commercial wins. These highlights, though, lead us to expect a lot of the company, and serve to make the misses stick out all the more. Apple has some embarrassing techno-skeletons in its beautiful white iCloset. Here are five.
The Hockey Puck Mouse
For a company that built itself on the first commercial, mouse equipped-computer, it’s odd that Apple has never made a good mouse. Even the current Mighty Mouse isn’t so mighty, pretending as it does to have just one button while actually sporting two, and inexplicably copying the Thinkpad’s red nipple instead of using a scroll wheel.
But the prize for Worst Mouse Ever goes the the “hockey puck”, which shipped with the original iMacs in 1998. Not only was it ugly, it was hard to hold due to size and shape, and frustrated users with a too-short cord. Rarely for Apple, style not only triumphed over substance, it utterly buried it.
The iPod Hi-Fi
Apple’s $350 speaker lasted just 18 months before it was taken out back, shot and sprinkled with lime. It was an odd product from Apple, which normally leaves these kinds of accessories to a healthy third-party market. The Bose-designed box had stereo speakers and an iPod dock on the top, and the high price tag and poor performance meant market failure.
Earbuds
Just like the lack of a good mouse, the dearth of decent headphones from Apple is another paradox. The sound quality may be comparable to or even better than the bundled ‘buds from other manufacturers, but they’ll break, and the $30 Apple wants for a new pair is better spent almost anywhere else.
I have gotten through a lot of them, and the longest any set lasted was a few months. This includes the latest, remote and microphone-toting model, which managed about six weeks before dying.
QuickTake
Long before Apple put a terrible camera in the iPhone, it put a terrible camera into a camera: The 0.3 megapixel (640×480) Apple QuickTake. The camera had no way to focus, and zooming was done by walking closer to your subject. Neither could you blast away like we do with the digicams of today: The QuickTake 100, built by Kodak, could fit just eight pictures into its 1MB memory.
The problem was that the market was immature, and the QuickTake was one of the first consumer digicams on the market. Compare this to the successful strategy of Apple since the iPod: Wait until the market has been established, then make a simpler, better product than anyone else.

iTunes
It started so well back in 2001. Apple’s jukebox software was built on the third party SoundJam which it bought the year before, and was a slick, quick and easy-to-use music player for a long time.
Then Apple decided that iTunes should be the conduit for the iPhone, and kept piling on bloated features. What had started as a pared-down, single-minded and simple application started to sync with Outlook, gained the useless cover flow view and, on the Mac at least, appeared to have a monopoly on the spinning beach-ball of death.
Worse, the iTunes Store, a fantastically user-friendly music store, gained weight in the form of the awful, hard to navigate App Store.
Of course, these days we have a new, simple and fast music app. It’s called Spotify. Apple, though, has shafted itself. The problem with selling a revolutionary device which is an iPod, a cellphone and an internet device, all in one, is that the software to support it needs to be similarly multi-tasking.
Anything we missed? While these failures are big, we have restricted them to the modern-day Apple, and ignored the Jobs-less wilderness years of beige-boxes and overpriced printers. Feel free to add more in the comments.

Hay que saber cuándo una etapa llega a su fin.
Cuando insistimos en alargarla más de lo necesario, perdemos la alegría y el sentido de las otras etapas que tenemos que vivir. Poner fin a un ciclo, cerrar puertas, concluir capítulos… no importa el nombre que le demos, lo importante es dejar en el pasado los momentos de la vida que ya terminaron.
¿Me han despedido del trabajo? ¿Ha terminado una relación? ¿Me he ido de casa de mis padres? ¿Me he ido a vivir a otro país? Esa amistad que tanto tiempo cultivé, ¿ha desaparecido sin más?
Puedes pasar mucho tiempo preguntándote por qué ha sucedido algo así. Puedes decirte a ti mismo que no darás un paso más hasta entender por qué motivo esas cosas que eran tan importantes en tu vida se convirtieron de repente en polvo.
Pero una actitud así supondrá un desgaste inmenso para todos: tu país, tu cónyuge, tus amigos, tus hijos, tu hermano; todos ellos estarán cerrando ciclos, pasando página, mirando hacia delante, y todos sufrirán al verte paralizado.
Nadie puede estar al mismo tiempo en el presente y en el pasado, ni siquiera al intentar entender lo sucedido. El pasado no volverá: no podemos ser eternamente niños, adolescentes tardíos, hijos con sentimientos de culpa o de rencor hacia sus padres, amantes que reviven día y noche su relación con una persona que se fue para no volver.
Todo pasa, y lo mejor que podemos hacer es no volver a ello.
Por eso es tan importante (¡por muy doloroso que sea!) destruir recuerdos, cambiar de casa, donar cosas a los orfanatos, vender o dar nuestros libros. Todo en este mundo visible es una manifestación del mundo invisible, de lo que sucede en nuestro corazón. Deshacerse de ciertos recuerdos significa también dejar libre un espacio para que otras cosas ocupen su lugar.
Dejar para siempre. Soltar. Desprenderse. Nadie en esta vida juega con cartas marcadas. Por ello, unas veces ganamos y otras, perdemos. No esperes que te devuelvan lo que has dado, no esperes que reconozcan tu esfuerzo, que descubran tu genio, que entiendan tu amor. Deja de encender tu televisión emocional y ver siempre el mismo programa, en el que se muestra cómo has sufrido con determinada pérdida: eso no hace sino envenenarte.
Nada hay más peligroso que las rupturas amorosas que no aceptamos, las promesas de empleo que no tienen fecha de inicio, las decisiones siempre pospuestas en espera del “momento ideal”. Antes de comenzar un nuevo capítulo hay que terminar el anterior: repítete a ti mismo que lo pasado no volverá jamás. Recuerda que hubo una época en que podías vivir sin aquello, sin aquella persona, que no hay nada insustituible, que un hábito no es una necesidad. Puede parecer obvio, puede que sea difícil, pero es muy importante.
Cerrar ciclos. No por orgullo, ni por incapacidad, ni por soberbia, sino porque, sencillamente, aquello ya no encaja en tu vida. Cierra la puerta, cambia el disco, limpia la casa, sacude el polvo.
Deja de ser quien eras, y transfórmate en el que eres.
